Gems...

Perusing that lovely new anti-porn site I found this collection of quotes supposedly proving how misogynistic porn producers are. You know, the standard couple quotes from Marigold and Flynt:
"Women are here to serve men. Look at them, they got to squat to piss. Hell, that proves it."
-- Larry Flynt, Hustler's publisher, quoted on The Anti-porn Resource Center (oneangrygirl.net/antiporn.html).

"I'd like to really show what I believe the men want to see: violence against women. I firmly believe that we serve a purpose by showing that. The most violent we can get is the cum shot in the face. Men get off behind that, because they get even with the women they can't have. We try to inundate the world with orgasms in the face."
-- Bill Margold, porn industry veteran, quoted in Robert J. Stoller and I. S. Levine, Coming Attractions: The Making of an X-rated video; 1993.

plus a few excerpts from mean ol' gonzo ad copy:
"We at Pure Filth know exactly what you want, and we're giving it to you. Chicks being ass-fucked till their sphincters are pink, puffy and totally blown out. Adult diapers just might be in store for these whores when their work is done."
-- Promotional copy for "Anally Ripped Whores".

Well, in the midst of it all, this:
"I enjoy watching people in pleasure, being pleasured, especially women. And that's the focus of my tapes. The woman's orgasm, the woman's pleasure. How it happens -- whether it be a fist or a penis, or a squash -- to me, it doesn't necessarily matter. That's within my personal realms of what's OK."
-- Adam Glasser, actor and producer of porn films (Source: pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/porn/interviews/glasser.html).
Which strikes me as quite out of place. Why exactly am I supposed to be mad at someone who likes to film women coming? Unless the argument is that they're not really, or this is quoted as a subtle (because it's unstated) critique of the idea that women's orgasms are vaginal, or something.

Why is *that* one supposed to make me mad, I wonder?

Oh, maybe it's the fisting. Well, you know what The Dude said, if your [body part] causes you to sin... *amputates right hand*

  1. And, of course, the bottom of the page:

"Click here for some of the most viscious racist, woman-hating pornography in existence."

  2. IACB: The fantasy, while violent, wasn't anything I'd consider bad at all -- an evening in my own brain.

The thing that was disgusting about that story was that it was about raping and killing a specific classmate.

Which, also, well -- grosser, yes, but again I can't say I've never had fantasies about someone I knew that were violent.

But it was disturbing to read with discussion above it suggesting (it wasn't totally clear) that the woman in question had discovered the fantasy and felt it was an actual threat.

    THAT squicked me.

But how people writing threatening tales connects to a particular industry, I don't see.

  3. The Adam Glasser (Seymore Butts) quote is actually sex-positive.

"Click here for some of the most viscious racist, woman-hating pornography in existence."

The link points to a rape/torture/murder story that was featured in the
    Jake Baker Case
    . Baker was acquitted.

I have seen similar, and even more violent stuff, written by people who did not pose an actual threat and did not actually hate women (or men, where the victims were men). Some had actual literary value. Using the name of a classmate, however, was very inappropriate. If his mother's statements are correct, the classmates name was chosen because her name was sexually suggestive in a sophomoric way.

Racist? The woman whose name was used on the story was oriental but that wasn't even mentioned in the story. Reading a little more about the case, race does not appear to have even been an issue in the selection.

Wow, that doesn't sound at all like ad copy.

and yeah: why is it not possible to disinguish between the other fuckheads and someone who's talking about pleasure?

and really: coming on a woman's face is violence? if he says so...

but yeah, it's the mentality, not the acts, that's the problem. but it seems to me that people on both sides of the divide seem to share the same view: sex is filthy and disgusting and you use it as a weapon.

    i dungeddit.

  5. Fausto: yeah, I agree. I thought at first it was an email. In that case... well, using her name is still a bit gross, but there might have been a reason to include it (the sexual pun, the story being a revenge fantasy for her getting a better grade on a midterm or her having dumped him, etc.)

Posting to alt.sex.stories "I want to rape and kill THIS PERSON THAT I KNOW", though... ick.

  7. Yawn. One, mixing quotes from actual performers in with gonzo copy and trying to pass it off as what everyone really says and thinks about eachother in porn is totally bunk and such an obvious appeal for the knee jerk. Do we take the "quote line" from Det. John McClean as Bruce Willis's actual thoughts he has while filming his Die Hard Movies? I certainly hope not.

And since when does some persons violent fantasy writing constitute mainstream widely known porn?
