Oh, and if it is a certain narcissistic sex worker primarily behind this site, again slagging off radfems… ‘embarrassment among peers’ can be but a click away - did she not learn anything last time about constantly attacking radfems?
If ‘they’ (stupidly) want to promote ‘pro-porn activism’ (an oxymoron if ever I heard one) then that actually isn’t the same as ’slagging off radfems fest #5,327′. [....]
Well, OK, so the mere act of maintaining this blog isn't a high crime against radfemdom, but we're pushing our luck and the threat is there. Great Goddess on a pogo stick, could these people be any more fucked up?
I've got to say, of the two segments of the anti-porn movement, religious right or radical feminist, its hard to figure out who's worse. On one hand, the religious right is by far a bigger threat politically (in the US, anyway), and of course, that goes way beyond porn. On the other hand, this kind of creepy stalking behavior, internet harassment, and personal threats seem to be the specialty of radical feminists. I have yet to see some godbag pull this kind of shit.
Stormy? Fuck off. See my last message to you wrt -lame attempts at blackmail.- We're not going through this again. People have Ren's back here; don't imagine you have less to lose than she does. go pufferfish somewhere else, fool.
ReplyDeleteto be fair, Ren does have her share of creepy fundies; it's just she never tried to come-let-us-reason-together with those people. which i imagine that if none of us had ever bothered to try to talk to these fools like there was any chance of them just taking off the tinfoil for five minutes, we'd be largely off their radar. no good deed goes unpunished and all that.
ReplyDeleteif you start linking to fundie sites and particularly trying to -talk- to them, I'm -sure- you'll start getting your share of those as well
and of course it's law of intermittent reinforcement and all that: some people -do- come and reason together, and that's all very nice. I'm really trying to not tar everyone with the same brush here. It's difficult not to without naming names.
ReplyDeleteas someone said, though, Renegade's site is a good litmus test for how genuinely tolerant a person really is. some people just found it alien and too much strife (and MRA's) and dropped off the radar; i think that's fine. some people come and talk respectfully even if they're diametrically opposed to Ren's take on porn as well as much of her other politics; i think that's pretty much all Ren wanted in the first place. i don't know if any of the rest of us were expecting more than that; I mean, I know Laura still does anti-porn activism, I still like her and I'm happy to talk to her.
the people who just, i guess, saw her as some sort of missionary project? because that's what it's shaping up to look like? not to mention the ones who were just fear and loathing and "separate rooms" from the very beginning: well...
there's this Far Side cartoon that goes, "How Nature says 'Do not touch.'" There's a picture of an arching cat, a porcupine a-prickle, some creepy crawler baring fangs...and a strange looking d00d in a kilt with an inflatable inner tube around his waist, carrying something that looks like a cross between a bagpipe and some weapons, and wearing a deranged facial expression.
Gary Larson is a wise, wise man...
Oh, some things never change, do they???
ReplyDeleteSo...does that mean that Witchy-Woo has given her full approval to any new attempt by Stormy and the Honeybee Brigade to personally out other "pro-porn" wasps??
Don't sing it, dahlin's...bring it.
This Black male doesn't take blackmail too kindly...especially when it's directed at his cyberfriends and allies.
Anthony
well, she already broke her end of the "deal" with that little "serves you right, harlot, nyah" diarrhea explosion all over R's blog some weeks back.

lol!
wait, what? I'm being threatened again?
ReplyDeleteyeah, we're all out to get them.
ReplyDeleteand we never criticize conservatives or anti-porn busybodies who are less feminist than my left toenail.
right.
bored now.
You knew it was going to happen didn't you? You didn't really expect these people to ever NOT find a way to feel persecuted, right?
ReplyDeleteFeeling attacked is what they DO.
Besides, last time they threatened you it appeared you backed down - and like any terrorist group that only encourages them.
yeah, noises about being "embarrassed in front of your peers." personally I can't think of much more embarrassing than being the author of that "bees and wasps" shit, but we all have different standards of what's "embarrassing," I 'spect.
ReplyDeletei think this is the equivalent of a junior high school student writing IM GUNNA KILLX0R U ALLS on his myspace. don't blame anyone for taking it seriously in this day and age, but still: probably just some little shit making noise.

I know a lot of people are positively allergic to the term "victim feminism", but, yeah, these people utterly embody it. This rant (scroll down) by "Not OK" over on Ren's blog is perhaps one of the clearer expositions of the whole "victim mentality" common to contemporary radical feminism that I've seen in some time.
To be fair, this is a mentality that's hardly unique to feminism – the whole religious right meme of "those homosexuals, perverts, and atheists by practicing their sinful lifestyles are taking away our rights to lead a godly life" is pretty much the same mindset with a slightly altered cast of characters.
it's--yeah, i dislike that term, especially when it's used as a weapon against, well, people who've been victimized.
ReplyDeletebut i think, you know, the phrase is valid in that--look, if you're hurting, you're hurting. But for god's sake -own it.- Stop putting it on everyone who not only did the deed but -isn't hurting exactly like you are.- And NO, it's not a frigging contest, all right? There is no moral superiority in having been victimized. It just means you've been victimized. And: the goal is to HEAL, not to get a badge for it.
oh well. "I DEFY you, Miss Havisham!..."
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm done with this shit out of Stormy. D-O-N-E. I don't even like porn and I'm done with it. FINISHED. Ren is a really wonderful person in a whole lot of ways, and being abrasive and critical of rad fems is not a crime. Two can do this dance, and Stormy isn't the only one who can dig up data and make files. I wonder how this egomaniacal bitch will feel when the boot is on HER neck.
ReplyDeleteI am done with this.
I hear you rosearose –
ReplyDeleteI wish we could just be done with this shit, but Stormy keeps bringing it up. And insofar as it, to some degree, it represents a real-life threat to one of our own, it needs to be acknowledged. Not capitulated to, but acknowledged.
I also hear you about the "two could play at this game" part. Not that I agree with stuff like exposing people's home addresses, etc – that's beyond the pale for me. But I wouldn't mind finding out who these people are IRL (Stormy, Witchy, and anybody else who is making threats), seeing if they're actually known in any activist communities, and exposing them as harassers and blackmailers on every UK indymedia and feminist board one can find. Basically, create some accountability for this shit.
yep.
ReplyDeleteand it seems to moi if you're running around vandalizing property and physically attacking people, maybe you know, you yourself might have some stake in remaining anonymous...
above, that's meant to be
ReplyDelete"not only didn't do the deed, but..."
oh for the love of the tooth fairy! pro-porn activism now=rad-fem bashing?
ReplyDeletei know the first rule of fight club is that you don't talk about fight club, but with things this arbitrary i don't wanna play no more.
snark out.

ReplyDeletein other news, gay rights actually are all about breaking up the traditional family, Islam is all about hating America, and Psychology Today is nothing more or less than a direct slap in the face to L. Rob Hubbard -and- Tom Cruise.
ReplyDeletebastard people, all of them!
oh yeah, and: wishing someone "Happy Holidays" is part of the dastardly War On Christmas. en GARDE!
ReplyDeleteCharlie is linking back here now; in a comment on the Manchester post.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly does "embarrassment among peers" mean? I mean, your parents already know, Mr. E already knows, those who read your blog know you do sex work. I she going to fly to your city and paper your neighborhood with fliers?
Never on here have you (or the other authors) said anything untrue about radfems. Hellfires, when you quote people you almost always cite sources.
And you actually quote people, you don't 'paraphrase' in such a way to make them sound much worse than they are (what type of intellectually dishonest person does that?)

Exactly. And that's what I don't even feel I can have a productive discussion with many radical feminists. Hell, even many "militant left" types such as a lot of the folks at Punkassblog. The conversation quickly degenerates into "oppression sweepstakes", with people who can claim the greatest oppression (or more often, people who claim to REPRESENT those with the greatest oppression) shouting down everybody else as a bunch of over-privileged narcissists.
I mean, if you want to testify about how X social institution has hurt you, you have every right to be heard and acknowledged. But to simply use that as a cudgel to shut other people up – that I'm not cool with.

ReplyDeleteStormy claims to have some terribly damning info on Ren – definitely complete bullshit on Stormy's part, but she likes to throw it out there as a way of muddying the waters.
I believe she also claims to have Ren's full name, address, professional info, etc, basically, stuff Ren would rather keep private for obvious reasons.
she made it sound like that and then backpedaled. or that she wouldn't stoop THAT low, silly YayPornies; she just, what, well, it's VERY THREATENING, whatever it is.
ReplyDeletebasically, if there really is something that could cause Renegade damage, she's utterly despicable for even going after the info, let alone trying to hold it over her head, and you bet if she does release something that's actually damaging she's somehow gotten a hold of it, well, yeah, turnabout's fair play, per your suggestions, I mean. I really hate the idea of escalation, but--god, she's such such a -fuckwit-.
If, as I suspect, she's just waving her arms and making noise (she's not exactly the brightest bagel in the box) with some crap that Renegade posted and then deleted or something, well: lame.
I mean Christ Jesus forbid try to communicate like a human being; no, wave and pufferfish and glower and stomp about and show how TUFF you are, that's what works, by cracky! only...not.
Drakyn:
ReplyDeleteI have reason to think that she could have information such as my real name, my SO's real name, his place of employement, the name of the company I work for, my families names, and god only knows what else. She threatened to post at least my real name and photos of me without my eyes blacked out (long before I said fuck it and started doing in anyway)... in short, things I prefer not to have known. Yes, such things were mentioned on my old LJ, which yes, not the smartest thing I could do, but it was a fairly obscure for friends kind of thing.

ReplyDeleteJeeeeeez. I hadn't picked up that Stormy was a Brit. I am depressed by feminist activism over here. And now I live in the same city as half of them. Oh, joy.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it so far beyond comprehension that feminists critique each other? And always have. I don't get how that's threatening.
And Ren - I'm so sorry this is happening AGAIN.
